Whitewash paint effect using Chalkpaint from Granny B’s

How to create a whitewash paint effect with Granny B’s Old Fashioned Paint

A basic whitewash effect using our paint is easily achieved.

1. Choose a color of Granny B's Old Fashioned Paint that you like. You can browse our website for inspiration. They have over 40 old fashioned inspired colors, 3 chalk-based metallic colors and 9 real-metal metallic paints.
2. Mix the paint with water to create a whitewash solution. The ratio of paint to water will depend on how thin or thick you want the whitewash to be. A 1:3 ratio will give a thin, translucent coating that doesn't need to be wiped or dry brushed. A 1:1 ratio will give a thicker coating that can be wiped or sanded for a distressed look.
3. Apply the whitewash solution to the surface you want to paint. You can use a brush, a roller, a rag or a sponge. Work in small sections and make sure the surface is clean and dry before painting. You can also use masking tape to create patterns or borders if you like.
4. Let the first coat of whitewash dry and then decide if you want to add another coat or not. You can also use a fine grade sandpaper to lightly rub the surface and create a more rustic look. Repeat this process until you are happy with the finish.
5. Seal the whitewash with a wax or a sealer to add depth and durability to the finish. You can choose from Granny B's range of sealers, waxes and glazes² to suit your style and preference. Follow the instructions on the product label and apply the sealer with a brush or a cloth.
