  2. Separate a small amount into a paint tray or small container and avoid dipping your brush into the original container.
  3. Amazing Glaze highlights details such as crevices, carvings, and brush strokes, so be sure to work the glaze well into these areas.

Deco-Podge

Deco-Podge Instructions

The Product

  1. Deco-Podge is a water-based decoupage medium with a noticeably thicker consistency.
  2. It can be thinned as desired by diluting with water.
  3. The product dries within 60 minutes per coat and can be painted over if desired.
  4. Deco-Podge can be applied to almost any surface with little or no preparation; however, on non-porous or very glossy surfaces, it is recommended to scuff the surface slightly to promote adhesion.
  5. This is a true “Swiss-army knife” product — it acts as a decoupage medium, a sealer, and when fully cured after 10 days, it provides excellent water resistance.
  6. As always, it is food-safe, kid-safe, and eco-friendly.

The Instructions

  1. Always stir the contents before use.
  2. Deco-Podge can be diluted when working with lighter-weight fabrics or tissue.
  3. When decoupaging onto non-porous or glossy surfaces (e.g., plastic), scuff the surface lightly, then apply a regular coat of Deco-Podge using a good-quality synthetic brush.
  4. Position your decoupage image and smooth out any creases or bubbles using your preferred method.
  5. Deco-Podge will dry within an hour.
  6. If desired, seal your decoupaged surface with Deco-Podge or with Granny B’s Armour or Classic Seal.
  7. Deco-Podge becomes fully water-resistant after 10 days of curing.

Block and Tackle

Block and Tackle Instructions

The Product

  1. Block & Tackle is a water-based primer that allows you to tackle almost any surface while blocking at least 95% of the substances that typically cause wood bleed.
  2. It can be used on painted and unpainted wooden surfaces, glass, ceramic, steel, plastic, and metal.
  3. It is particularly favoured by furniture artists who paint classic and antique items that have been exposed to years of oiling, waxing, and polishing.
  4. The product is compatible with Granny B’s Old Fashioned Paint, as well as most quality chalk paints and other water-based paint products.
  5. The spread rate is between 10m² and 12m², depending on the surface and paint technique.

The Instructions

As a Primer

  1. Clean the surface thoroughly using sugar soap or lacquer thinners.
  2. For highly glossed areas, clean using a scouring pad or lightly sand before cleaning.
  3. Apply two coats of Block & Tackle, one hour apart.
  4. After applying the second coat, allow it to dry for a further four hours before painting.
  5. For glass, glazed ceramics, and porcelain, additional drying time is recommended.

As a Stain-Block

  1. Apply three coats of Block & Tackle, allowing one hour between each coat.
  2. Allow the final coat to cure for a minimum of 72 hours.
  3. Once cured, Block & Tackle will inhibit over 95% of the stains or wood bleed commonly found in older, stained, oiled, or varnished items.
  4. If bleeding occurs after painting or sealing, sand only the affected areas lightly.
  5. Apply two additional coats of Block & Tackle and allow 24–48 hours to cure, depending on the severity of the bleed.
  6. Repaint and seal the affected area as needed.

Application & Cleanup

  1. Block & Tackle can be applied using a brush, spray gun, or foam roller.
  2. To clean your equipment, wash with a mild solution of soap and water.

The Product

  1. Scumble is a water-based product that complements the rest of our low VOC and child-safe range.
  2. It can be used to create an antique finish over your painted surface or a modern wash effect by tinting it with our vibrant paint colours.
  3. Scumble is ideal for achieving both contemporary and antique finishes, as well as for creating your own custom effects.
  4. Traditionally, scumble glaze is used for techniques such as colour washing and woodgraining, but the possibilities are limitless depending on how you choose to apply it.
  5. Granny B’s Scumble is perfect for mixing your own tinted glaze using any of our Old Fashioned Paints to recreate popular painting techniques or develop unique effects.

The Instructions

  1. Mix four parts Granny B Scumble Glaze with one part Granny B Old Fashioned Paint to create a translucent glaze.
  2. Use a high-quality large soft brush to apply an even layer of glaze.
  3. Wipe back the glaze using a soft, slightly damp cloth until your desired amount of glaze remains.
  4. Use a soft, dry brush to create your preferred effect in the remaining glaze on the surface.
  5. Allow the piece to dry completely and then seal with Granny B’s Armour.

Granny B’s Liquid Metal Instructions

The Product

  1. Add “bling” to your project or your paint with Granny B’s Liquid Metal!
  2. Liquid Metal is designed so you can mix your own metallic chalk-based paint shades.
  3. It allows you to create a true metallic finish that is safe and easy to use.
  4. Liquid Metal is specifically formulated to complement our Old Fashioned Paint range.
  5. It can also be used to highlight features where you might have previously used Gilder’s Paste, or you can paint your entire project for a unique statement piece.
  6. Our Liquid Metals are water-based, kid-safe, and provide a true metallic formulation, but it is not a chalk-based paint.
  7. It adheres best to surfaces prepared with Granny B’s Old Fashioned Paint or any other chalk-based paint.
  8. Liquid Metal has excellent adhesion qualities, especially on porous or raw wood surfaces, but will adhere to most other surfaces except plastic (for plastic, apply a coat of Classic Seal first).

The Instructions

  1. Stir the bottle well before use.
  2. Apply using a silicone brush, sponge brush, or clean cloth.
  3. Liquid Metal will adhere to any chalk-based paint or porous surface.
  4. The finished product creates a metallic, non-porous satin finish.
  5. Clean your equipment with warm soapy water.
  6. Seal the paint pot after use, as exposure to air will dry out the product.
  7. Allow approximately 30 minutes between coats and up to two hours for complete drying.
  8. Liquid Metal is gel-based; if too thick, thin with distilled water. If too thin, leave open to thicken to your desired consistency.

Classic Seal

  1. Classic Seal is a general-purpose liquid sealer that is easy to use and hard-wearing.
  2. It is recommended for sealing items exposed to medium traffic.
  3. Classic Seal is water- and heat-resistant and provides medium protection against UV exposure.

The Instructions

  1. No dilution with water is necessary.
  2. Stir well before use.
  3. This product is recommended for use with Granny B’s Old Fashioned Paint and has not been tested on other water-based paints.
  4. Use a silicone bristle brush, as these do not easily lose fibres.
  5. Apply as the final step after any additional distressing features are added to further protect your project.
  6. Two coats are recommended.
  7. Seal the cap when not in use, as exposure to air will dry out the product.
  8. Clean all equipment with mild soap and warm water.
  9. Allow a curing time of 72 hours.

Waxing Cream

Waxing Cream Instructions

The Product

  1. Granny B’s Clear Waxing Cream is virtually odour-free and 100% solvent-free.
  2. It is suitable for areas with high moisture content and also provides UV protection.
  3. You can tint the waxing cream with any of Granny B’s colours.

The Instructions

  1. Apply the waxing cream as a final step to seal and protect your completed project. There is no need to reapply later, as the product fully cures.
  2. Once cured, your project will withstand moisture and is even suitable for outdoor use.
  3. Allow the paint to dry for 2–3 hours before gently applying the Waxing Cream with a lint-free cloth.
  4. Work in small sections until the Waxing Cream has been applied to the entire piece.
  5. You can add an additional tinted layer by mixing the Waxing Cream with any of Granny B’s Old Fashioned Paint colours. Allow it to fully cure for 8 hours.
  6. This sealer is designed for users who prefer a traditional satin finish. It is water-resistant and offers some UV protection, but it is recommended primarily for indoor use with medium traffic.

Granny B’s Armour Instructions

The Product

  1. Granny B’s Armour is a resilient, weather-resistant sealer suitable for all indoor and outdoor surfaces exposed to high traffic.
  2. It is ideal for cupboard doors, outdoor furniture, countertops, and even floors.
  3. Granny B’s Armour combines polyurethane with fine particle size, core-shell, pure acrylic technologies.
  4. It dries to a clear, firm finish, forming a tough, attractive coating with excellent abrasion and chemical resistance.
  5. It adheres excellently to all porous surfaces, wood, and plastic.
  6. This versatile product can also be used as a stain block, image transfer medium, and decoupage medium.

The Instructions

  1. No dilution with water is necessary, but stir the contents of the jar well before use.
  2. Apply using a sponge brush, bristle brush, or roller; a silicone bristle brush is preferred to minimize fibre loss.
  3. Apply as the final step over your Granny B’s Old Fashioned Paint project for long-lasting protection; 2–3 layers are recommended for high-traffic surfaces.
  4. Granny B’s Armour is non-yellowing, UV-resistant, tough, flexible, abrasion-resistant, fast-drying, and water-resistant.
  5. The product will be dry to the touch within one hour.
  6. Seal the lid when not in use to prevent the product from drying out.
  7. Clean all equipment with water immediately after application.
  8. Allow the product to fully cure for 72 hours.

Polka Seal

Polka Seal Instructions

The Product

  1. Polka.Seal is a specially formulated “high-flow” water-based sealer that flows and levels to complement your painted surface, helping to eliminate the appearance of brush strokes.
  2. Most sealers require dilution to achieve this effect, but dilution reduces protective properties. Polka.Seal flows like water while retaining its hard-wearing properties.
  3. Polka.Seal has a satin-matte appearance.
  4. It can be used on all indoor and outdoor surfaces, providing water and UV resistance, protection from minor impacts, and enhanced paintwork appearance.
  5. Polka.Seal can be applied to Polka.Paint as well as most chalkpaint products, including porous and semi-porous surfaces such as cleaned or sanded wood, cement, pottery, and ceramic.
  6. Coverage is approximately 10–14 m² per litre.
  7. Polka.Seal is food-contact safe, kid-safe, and environmentally friendly when fully cured.
  8. Full curing time is 72 hours, depending on climate.

The Product

  1. Polka.Paint is a revolutionary décor paint designed for both novices and experts, suitable for quick DIY projects or full-scale applications like kitchens and furniture.

  3. Very little surface preparation is required, and sanding of previously varnished or painted items is generally discouraged.
  4. Polka.Paint self-levels as it dries, creating a flat, even, velvety surface with minimal brush-stroke evidence.
  5. It is water-based, eco-friendly, safe for people, pets, and the planet, and cleaning tools is easy with warm soapy water.

  1. Stir contents well before use, and where possible, decant paint into a separate tray to avoid contaminating the main container.
  2. Ensure the surface is cleaned thoroughly with sugar soap or lacquer thinners.
  3. Polka.Paint adheres to most surfaces with minimal prep; however, very glossy surfaces should be lightly sanded with medium- to high-grit sandpaper for optimal adhesion.
  4. Avoid sanding varnished wood unless the varnish is flaking, as this helps reduce wood bleed.
  5. Allow 1–2 hours drying time between coats.
  6. Paint in a single direction whenever possible; back-and-forth strokes can overwork the paint.
  7. Polka.Paint will self-level after each stroke, though the original surface condition can affect the final look and feel.
  8. For light-traffic décor applications, sealing is optional.
  9. For heavier traffic surfaces, seal with Polka.Seal for UV, water, and heat resistance, or use Pappa G’s Chalkpaint Wax for a smooth decorative finish.
  10. Any of Granny B’s Sealers can be diluted to create a self-leveling sealer.

The Product

  1. Embossing Paste is a ready-to-use compound that adds extra depth and texture to your project.
  2. No mixing is required; it can be used straight out of the jar.

The Instructions

  1. Apply free-hand with a palette knife, or over a stencil using a paint scraper or an old credit card.
  2. Remove stencils while the embossing paste is still wet.
  3. Clean stencils and other equipment while the paste is still wet.
  4. Allow the embossing paste to dry for at least 45 minutes before painting over it.
  5. Embossing Paste can be tinted with any of Granny B’s Old Fashioned Paint colours.

Granny B’s Crackle

The Product

  1. Granny B’s Crackle Medium allows you to experiment with a variety of techniques to create unique crackle effects.

The Instructions

  1. Apply a thicker layer for larger cracks and a thinner layer for smaller cracks.
  2. To create square cracks, apply your top coat of paint in a perpendicular direction.
  3. For straight cracks, apply your top coat in a parallel direction.
  4. The top layer of paint can be applied within a few minutes (3–5 minutes depending on humidity) for faster crackling, or left to dry completely for more gentle, fine crack effects.

The Product

  1. Pappa G’s Deluxe Gilder’s Paste adds a special touch to your project with an enhanced formulation that is soft and easy to apply.
  2. The paste does not dry out in the container and is available in a range of colours that complement our paint range.
  3. Each colour is packaged in a beautiful glass container.

The Instructions

  1. Apply small amounts of Gilder’s Paste using your fingers or a lint-free cloth to edges, embellishments, relief features, or to experiment with shading techniques.
  2. Gilder’s Paste will fully cure within 24 hours.
  3. To correct a mistake, remove the paste within an hour of application using a cloth and mineral turpentine.
  4. For best results, apply directly to unsealed chalkpaint.
  5. If the paste has dried out, add a small amount of mineral turpentine and mix well to restore it.

Tips for Use

  1. Ensure the surface is dry, clean, and free of dirt, oil, grease, and scale, especially if not newly painted.
  2. Gilder’s Paste can be applied with fingers, sponge, cloth, rubber stamps, and more.
  3. All colours can be thinned with mineral turpentine to extend coverage.
  4. Polishing metallic Gilder’s Paste with a soft cloth produces a gilded finish, substituting for gold, silver, or bronze leaf. Non-metallic pastes will appear shiny.
  5. If left unpolished, the finish will be semi-gloss or matte depending on the colour.

  3. The paint enhances the look of slightly damaged or worn items, turning dings and dents into character.
  4. It is easy to create distressed effects, such as sanding or using stencils, for a shabby country cottage look.
  5. The paint is beginner-friendly and allows the creation of one-of-a-kind masterpieces with ease.
  6. Once dry, it leaves a matte, chalk-like finish.
  7. With a wide variety of colours available, the creative possibilities are endless.

The Instructions

  1. Stir contents well before use.

  3. Allow approximately 30 minutes between coats.
  4. Lighter colours may require more coats than darker colours.
  5. To thicken the paint, leave a small amount to dry slightly, creating an impasto effect.
  6. To thin the paint, add and mix in water, which is ideal for whitewash effects.
  7. The finished product is porous; sealing with a water-based varnish will provide a satin finish and enhance the colour.
  8. Clean all equipment with warm, soapy water.
  9. Seal paint pots after use, as exposure to air will dry out the product.
