Block & Tackle Multi-Purpose Stain Blocking Primer (1L)

Block & Tackle is a water-based, multi-purpose stain blocking primer for furniture painting and surface preparation. This 1L primer is particularly suited to classic and antique furniture that has been oiled, waxed or polished. When applied and cured as directed for stain blocking, it inhibits over 95% of the stains or wood bleed typically encountered on older, stained, oiled or varnished items.

Compatible surfaces and paints

Use on painted and unpainted wood, glass, ceramic, tiles, steel, plastic and other metal surfaces. Compatible with Granny B’s Old Fashioned Paint and most quality chalk paints and water-based paint products.

Coverage and application tools

Spread rate: 10–12 m², depending on the surface and application technique. Apply with a brush, sprayer or foam roller. Clean equipment with a mild soap-and-water solution.

Step 1: Clean and prepare

Clean the surface thoroughly with sugar soap or lacquer thinners, removing dirt, oil and solvent residue as far as possible. For highly glossy areas, use a scouring pad or lightly sand before cleaning. Freshly prepared and sanded wood should be even and dust-free.

Step 2: Apply primer

For use as a primer, apply 2 coats, one hour apart.

Step 3: Allow to dry

After the second primer coat, allow a further 4 hours to dry before painting. Allow additional drying time for glass, glazed ceramics and porcelain.

Step 4: Paint and finish

Once the required drying or curing time has elapsed, paint with Granny B’s Old Fashioned Paint or another compatible chalk paint or water-based paint product.

Using Block & Tackle as a stain block

Apply 3 coats, allowing one hour between coats. Allow the final coat to cure for a minimum of 72 hours before painting. Once cured, Block & Tackle inhibits over 95% of the stains or wood bleed typically encountered when painting older, stained, oiled or varnished items.

If bleeding occurs after painting or sealing

Lightly sand off the upper layers of the affected areas only. Apply 2 more coats of Block & Tackle and allow 24–48 hours to cure, depending on the intensity of the bleeding. Repaint and seal the affected area as needed.
