Why makers love Old Fashioned Paint

  • Little to no sanding: sticks well to wood, metal, glass, ceramic, enamel, melamine and even fabric
  • Lead-free and low in VOCs: safe for kids
  • Matt, chalk-like finish: suits both vintage and contemporary looks
  • Easy for beginners and pros: mix colours from your collection to create your own shades

Finish and protect with Classic Seal

Chalk paint dries quite porous. Classic Seal gives your project a water-resistant satin finish and brings out the colour, so your piece lasts longer in everyday use.

How to use

  • Stir the paint well, then pour only what you need into a separate tray or container
  • Use a silicone bristle brush for very little fibre loss
  • Leave about 30 minutes between coats. Lighter colours usually need more coats than darker ones
  • To thicken, let a small amount dry slightly to create an impasto
  • To thin, mix in water. Add more water for whitewash and wash techniques
  • Seal the dry paint with Classic Seal for a water-resistant finish
  • Clean brushes and tools with warm soapy water
  • Close paint pots tightly, as air dries out the paint

A little chalk history

The first chalk paints were used hundreds of years ago, and today almost every language has its own word for chalk: kalk, kryt, tjhoko, ushoki, creiea, chok. Which one's your favourite?
